Rap a tap tap - think of that! by Leo and Diane Dillon
Students can join in with the story chanting the words ‘Rap a tap tap – think of that!’ I use this to reinforce the rhythm as: ‘the way the words go.’ Young children can perform the words on classroom instruments, such as: chopsticks or claves as you read the story, or body percussion to match the words. I don’t show younger students the rhythmic notation but depending on how you emphasise the words you could use it as a tika-ti activity or a compound time music activity with older students:
As an added extra I have just recently attached the youtube clip to the front cover of the book using the Aurasma app. Students can simply come into my classroom log into the music account I have created for my school, go up to the book - scan using the Aurasma app and the book will instantly come to life!
If you have a copy of this book in your classroom you can also download the app, login to the heyprestoproductions account and scan the hard copy book and the Aura will play instantly! Login: heyprestoproductions password: heypresto. Once you are logged into the account you can even scan the front cover of the book pictured at the start of this post and the Aura will play. Hope you have an amazing 'toe-tapping Tuesday!'
